I am an architect and designer based in Toronto, Canada, and I am an Assistant Professor at the John H. Daniels School of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. I recently finished my PhD at CITA – the Centre for Information Technology and Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Prior to moving to Copenhagen, I was an Associate Partner at Foster + Partners. As a key member of the Specialist Modelling Group, the office's internal research and development consultancy, I worked on many projects involving complex geometry and helped establish the office's rapid prototyping capabilities. I specialize in digital design: parametric modelling and computational techniques, performance-driven design, and the communication and construction of complex geometry. I have also worked in the London office of design-led engineering practice Buro Happold, where I worked on a variety of high-profile architectural projects as a member of Mike Cook’s Group 054 Structures department.
I am a Director of the Smartgeometry organization, and I have been a tutor at all Smartgeometry conferences from 2005-2012. Academically, I have taught at the University of Toronto, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, the University of Ghent, the University of Nottingham. I disseminate my research through the publication of book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers. I regularly present my work at conferences and universities. I am the co-editor of 'Computation Works: The Building of Algorithmic Though', an issue of the Architectural Design (AD) journal and the co-editor of 'Inside Smartgeometry', a book which reflects on the first 10 years of the Smartgeometry organization and conferences. Both of these books are published by Wiley. I am currently working on a new book 'Computing the Environment'.
